Pocono's Russian Escorts

These Russian Trawlers were always waiting for the Pocono when we got underway just outside the 12 mile limit of US controlled waters.   They either accompanied us for the entire voyage or for a few days.  The trawlers tried to intercept our radio messages and decode them.  Many years later we learned that a Navy Chief sold the secrets of our Cryptographic Equipment to the Russians and they no doubt copied our radio traffic in real time.  We found that a new and powerful radar system that was installed in the mid 60's could be turned on and aimed at the trawler's.  When we did this the Trawler's immediately moved away so that their radio equipment would not be fried by the power of our radar.
